The Event Register — Terms of Service
Effective date: November 2, 2026. These terms were approved for publication on October 31, 2026 and will be reviewed by qualified New York legal counsel. See the legal-review provision herein.
Operator: The Event Register ("we," "us"). Contact: admin@the-event-register.com
1. What The Event Register is
The Event Register is a professional marketplace connecting the event industry with genuine opportunities. At launch it serves the New York City metropolitan area. We provide the marketplace — listings, applications, opportunity-scoped messaging, and billing for memberships. We are not a party to any hiring relationship, contract, or payment between users. Engagements formed through the platform are solely between the poster and the professional.
2. Accounts
- One universal account. Every account may both post opportunities and submit applications. There are no separate hirer and hiree account types. Verification requirements follow the action you are performing, not a permanent account classification.
- You must provide accurate identity and contact information and keep it current.
- Email verification is required before you may post an opportunity or submit an application. Accounts with unverified email addresses may browse but cannot participate.
- You are responsible for activity under your account, including by team members you invite to your organization. Only organization owners may grant owner-level access.
- You must be at least 18 years old or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction to hold an account.
- We may suspend or deactivate accounts that violate these terms, submit fraudulent listings, or abuse the platform (see Section 12).
3. Memberships, featured placement, and payments
- Membership tiers: Free (up to 2 active standard listings), Professional ($29/month, up to 10 active standard listings), Business ($79/month, unlimited active standard listings subject to fair use). Pending-review and published standard listings count toward active limits; closed, expired, rejected, and withdrawn listings do not.
- Browsing opportunities and submitting applications is always free. No one may charge applicants to apply, and listings that require applicants to pay to submit proposals are prohibited.
- Featured placement ($29 for 7 days) is a separately purchased product that increases a listing's visibility. Featured listings are independent of subscription allowances and do not consume any standard listing slots included in the Free, Professional, or Business tiers. A featured listing remains exempt from standard listing limits after its promotional period ends. Featured listings are clearly labeled as paid placement — never as verification or endorsement — and remain subject to the same approval requirements as all other listings. The seven-day promotional period begins only after the listing is approved and the featured placement is activated. [Note: featured placement will be introduced after launch; it is not available on day one.]
- Annual plans: Professional $290/year and Business $790/year, with the same listing limits and features as their monthly equivalents. Annual plans bill once per year and renew automatically until canceled.
- Upgrades take effect immediately. If you upgrade mid-cycle (for example, Professional to Business, or monthly to annual billing), the price difference is prorated for the remainder of your current billing period. You keep your original renewal date.
- Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. This includes moving to a lower membership tier and switching from annual to monthly billing. You retain your current plan's benefits until then. Canceling an annual plan stops renewal; the current annual term is not refunded except for duplicate charges or as required by law.
- Subscription changes and failed payments generate email notifications — upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, and failed payments.
- Membership downgrades and listing grace period. If an account has more active standard listings than its new membership tier permits, The Event Register provides a 30-calendar-day grace period beginning on the effective date of the downgrade. During this period, existing approved listings may remain published even if they exceed the new tier's allowance. You may continue managing those listings, reviewing applications, communicating with applicants, and participating in other marketplace activities. Accounts at or above their new standard listing allowance may not publish additional standard listings until their active listing count falls below that allowance. You may select which listings to retain within your new membership limit. At the end of the grace period, any excess listings will be withdrawn from public view. If no selection has been made, the most recently published eligible listings up to the new tier's allowance will be retained and the remainder withdrawn. We will send email notifications regarding the downgrade, the grace period, the upcoming deadline, and any resulting listing withdrawals. Withdrawn listings remain available in your account for reference, subject to our data-retention policies. [Launch note: the grace period is administered manually at launch — downgrade requests, listing selections, withdrawals, and notifications are handled by the administrator with email templates until automated tooling ships. Your grace-period rights above apply regardless of how they are administered.]
- Duplicate charges. If you are charged more than once for the same subscription or purchase because of a processing error, we will refund the duplicate charge. This does not limit any refund rights you may have under applicable law.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers. Failed, canceled, or expired subscriptions lose paid-tier entitlements automatically, subject to the grace period above.
- Tier prices and listing limits are configurable by the platform administrator and may change; changes apply going forward, and we will give reasonable notice of price increases to existing subscribers.
4. Listing review and approval
All opportunities are subject to The Event Register's review and approval procedures before publication.
At launch, every listing is reviewed manually by an administrator, regardless of the poster's membership tier, prior activity, or purchase of featured placement.
The Event Register may modify its review procedures as the platform develops, including introducing automated screening, risk-based review, or other appropriate safeguards. Any such changes will be reflected in our published policies.
Review and approval assess compliance with platform requirements based on the information reasonably available to us. Approval does not constitute independent confirmation that an opportunity is funded, that any party will perform its obligations, or that an engagement will result in payment.
No listing may become publicly visible before it satisfies the applicable approval requirements. Paid membership or featured placement does not bypass those requirements.
5. Posting opportunities — accuracy
- You must accurately describe the opportunity: event date, location, scope, requirements, and budget (or approved confidential-budget designation, see Section 7). Distinguish Ready to Hire (genuine, funded, established hiring intention) from Conditional RFP (legitimate but dependent on a disclosed condition).
- When posting on behalf of an organization, provide your role or title. An organization website is optional, including for independent professionals.
- Prohibited listings: unpaid opportunities; speculative listings presented as confirmed work; listings requiring applicants to pay; listings with materially false budgets, dates, or requirements.
- Identical verification and integrity standards apply to paying and non-paying posters. Paying for membership or featured placement does not exempt any listing from review and does not imply trustworthiness.
6. Applications and messaging
- Applications collect qualification information relevant to the opportunity. A short professional description is required before your first application; portfolios, websites, and credentials are optional. Mandatory requirements may support eligibility checks; preferred criteria will never silently disqualify you.
- Legitimate standardized applications — such as a consistent professional summary you reuse — are permitted. Mass-submitting irrelevant applications is not.
- Messaging exists only in connection with a specific opportunity or application. Ordinary professional coordination (for example, exchanging phone numbers to arrange event logistics) is permitted. Spam, harassment, pressure tactics, and moving conversations off-platform to evade platform safeguards are prohibited.
- Keep communications professional and relevant. Report abuse through the platform's reporting tools.
7. Confidential budgets (BAQA)
Some listings use confidential budgets ("Budget Available to Qualified Applicants") under a controlled exception to our budget-transparency standard:
- Confidential-budget listings require the poster's written justification and manual approval for that specific listing. Payment tier and prior verification do not exempt a poster from this approval.
- Applicants first submit qualifications without a priced proposal; qualified applicants then receive the budget or range privately; only then may they submit priced proposals.
- If you receive a confidential budget disclosure, you must keep it confidential — do not share it with other applicants, republish it, or use it outside your application for that opportunity.
- BAQA may never be used to conceal compensation, collect blind low bids, or avoid budget accountability. Misuse leads to revocation of confidential-posting privileges and may lead to suspension.
8. Hiring payments are outside the platform
The Event Register does not process, hold, escrow, or guarantee payments between hiring parties — including deposits, milestone payments, invoices, and final compensation. Contracts, deposits, invoices, and payment terms are entirely your own responsibility, whether agreed on or off the platform.
Distinguish platform-verified subscription and featured-placement payments (which we process through Stripe and confirm by email) from any amounts you agree with another user. We verify only the former. Be cautious of anyone asking you to send money, deposits, or financial information outside of a written agreement you have independently evaluated. Fraudulent deposit requests are prohibited and should be reported (see Section 9).
9. Reporting suspected misconduct
The platform provides an on-site reporting mechanism for suspected fraud, nonpayment, nonperformance, misrepresentation, and other misconduct related to listings, applications, messages, or engagements.
Reports enter an administrator review process and may result in platform-level action, including content removal, privilege revocation, or account suspension. The Event Register acts on misconduct affecting the integrity of the marketplace; it does not adjudicate private contractual disputes between users, which remain subject to the parties' own agreements and legal remedies.
10. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you post (listings, applications, portfolio materials, messages). By posting, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to display and distribute that content on the platform as needed to operate the marketplace. You represent that you have the rights to everything you upload, including portfolio work and images.
11. Prohibited conduct
No fraud, misrepresentation, or impersonation — including fraudulent deposit requests and misrepresenting your availability, qualifications, authority, or intention to fulfill an agreement. No harassment or discriminatory conduct. No unnecessary collection of sensitive personal information from other users (such as government ID numbers, financial account details, or other data not reasonably needed to evaluate an application or engagement). No scraping or automated bulk collection. No attempts to bypass access controls, listing limits, verification, or payment. No uploading malicious files. No interfering with other users' access to the platform.
12. Moderation and enforcement
We review flagged listings, applications, messages, and accounts. Depending on severity and history, we may: require edits, return a listing to review, remove content, suspend confidential-posting privileges, or suspend or terminate accounts. Serious or repeated violations — including BAQA misuse, fraudulent listings, fraudulent deposits, and payment abuse — may result in immediate suspension. We keep audit records of enforcement actions, including reviewer identity and timestamps.
13. Verification is not endorsement
The Event Register verifies email ownership and reviews listings for compliance with platform requirements based on the information reasonably available to us. We do not independently establish any user's identity, financial capacity, authority to act for an organization, or intention to perform. "Email Verified" is the strongest account-level verification claim we make. Listing review is a trust signal — it is not an endorsement, guarantee of payment, or warranty of any engagement's outcome. Featured placement is paid visibility, not verification. We may introduce reputation indicators based on completed engagements and good standing in the future. Do your own diligence before entering any engagement.
14. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
[FOR COUNSEL REVIEW — including the proposed USD 100 floor below.]
The Event Register provides a marketplace venue only. We are not a party to, and we assume no responsibility for, any hiring relationship, contract, engagement, deposit, or payment between users (see Sections 1 and 8). Disputes arising from an engagement — including nonpayment, nonperformance, or misrepresentation by another user — are solely between the users involved.
The platform is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee that any listing leads to hiring, that any applicant is qualified, that engagements complete as agreed, or that any party will pay or perform.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and subject to the exceptions below: (a) our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the platform is limited to the greater of (i) the amounts you paid to The Event Register in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (ii) USD 100; and (b) we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, business, or data.
[PROPOSAL FOR COUNSEL: the USD 100 floor in (a)(ii) addresses the concern that a pure fees-paid cap would create an effectively $0 limitation for free-tier users. Counsel should confirm whether a fixed floor is appropriate and, if so, the amount.]
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for intentional wrongdoing (including fraud and willful misconduct) and gross negligence [FOR COUNSEL REVIEW: confirm the complete set of non-excludable liability categories under New York law]. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be waived under applicable law.
15. Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in advance with the effective date. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
16. Legal review and refinement
The Event Register periodically reviews its legal policies and operating procedures to maintain compliance with applicable law and reflect the development of its services. Our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Community Standards are currently scheduled for review by New York legal counsel and may be refined following that review.
Any revisions will be published with an updated effective date. We will provide advance notice of material changes where required by law, and obtain additional consent where legally necessary. Changes will not retroactively eliminate rights or protections that cannot lawfully be waived.
17. Governing law and venue
[Proposed language — FOR COUNSEL REVIEW. No mandatory arbitration or class-action waiver is included, per the founder's instruction.]
These Terms of Service, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to your use of The Event Register, are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any applicable mandatory protections or nonwaivable rights under the laws of your jurisdiction.
You agree that any legal action arising from these Terms will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts, subject to applicable law and any nonwaivable rights you may have.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions will continue in full effect. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or protections that cannot lawfully be waived under applicable law.
[FOR COUNSEL REVIEW: confirm whether state-only or state+federal venue is preferable; confirm the savings clause is sufficient; confirm the NY choice-of-law formulation against applicable mandatory protections.]
